Wishbone was show on PBS that ran from 1995 to 1998. It starred a Jack Russell terrier named Wishbone who drew parallels between the events of his owner, Joe and his friend to classic literature. The show would have to stories happening on would the events of Joe and his friends and the other would the classic story where Wishbone would play the lead role. Since the show was 30 minutes and there was two stories occurring the classic story would be very abridged. However it didn’t shy away from the sadder material. The show won a lot of awards including four Emmys.
Only a handful of the episode were released for home use and one episode was Hunchdog of Notre Dame. So how is this episode? What situation did Wishbone relate to The Hunchback?

The Hunchback episode of Madeline is the 6th episode, you can find it on Youtube…but if you just type in “Madeline and the Hunchback” it will come up with everything HOND2. I completely forgot that Disney gave Quasimodo’s girlfriend the name, Madeline.
I have mixed feelings about this show. I mean for a minute or so you find yourself enjoying the little story they have going on, but they keep cutting back to the present day and is just becomes dull and uninteresting. Then again there has been worse hunchback appearsnces on tv. Ever see Madeline and the hunchback? That was just … odd
I’m going to have to look up Madeline and the Hunchback. There are quite a few REALLY bad animated adaptations of HOND/NDDP; The Secret of the Hunchback, there’s the adaptation done by Burbank Studios which is just dull and bland, the adaptation done by Dingo Studios is just awesomely bad…if you really just want to laugh your ass off I would suggest that one.
I like the Wishbone adaptation, but it is too short. One third of the show is going to be commercials, one third is the present day and one third is HOND/NDDP. So, really it’s about 10 minutes of HOND/NDDP. It’s a cute summary and the main goals of the show were to get kids interested in reading and show some form of moral.
I haven’t yet seen the Madeline episode. It’s on my radar though.
Wishbone was one of my favorite shows as a kid! Growing up I read a lot and I loved classical books. I would want to go to the mall just to go to the book store (still do sometimes) and I’d spend 2hrs. in the book store alone…my mom would tell me that I could get one new book and I’d end up getting a 3-5ft. stack of books. And the fact that the show had a cute doggie was just icing on the cake. For a while I wanted a little “Wishbone” dog, so I could read it all the cool books I had, but jack Russells usually have a tendency to be hyper and jumpy…not really my kind of dog.
Yes, I have always been a dork/nerd.
yeah, Jack Russells and mixes of them are quite hyper. I think my own dog is part Jack Russell and she is very crazy and hyper.
