Here is a very simple question for everyone, What is your favorite from the novel of The Hunchback of Notre Dame?
My favorite scene from the novel would have to be the jail where Frollo confesses to Esmeralda but I also like a lot the silly Gringoire scenes, like Esmeralda’s and wedding night.
My favorite scene is the broken pitcher marriage. But my second favorite is the dungeon/confession scene and my third favorite is the one where Esmeralda is invited into the Gondelaurier/Aloise household…it reminds me of the movie, Mean Girls…and how some girls act in real life.
Almost certainly the scene of Quasimodo speaking with Esmeralda in the bell tower, it gets me every time. I also really am fond of a lot of Gringoire scenes, never appreciated the humor in those when I was younger. Three Human Hearts Differently Constitued is brilliant, not just for the iconic “sanctuary” scene, but the entire chapter could almost be enjoyed as a short story. The jail scene is also facinating, a poor young girl being told everything that’s been troubling her is the result of an aging madman whose been stalking her.
