With #15, let’s go back to the very beginning, I hear it’s a very good place to start.

Snow White surrounded by woodland critters, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney 1937

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was not a Disney movie I watched much as a kid. I THINK I saw it once when I was nine or ten and not again till this year. Watching it as adult I was struck by just how beautiful the animation is and how well it holds up.

While the story is very simple and presented very simply the characters are all charming. Snow White gets a bum rep for being passive and weak but I disagree. Snow White’s character was crafted for a pre-world-war 2 mindset. She knew who she was, picked herself up and did what she needed to do to move forward. All why displaying great intra-personal skills. She also delegate works and get the Dwarves to wash their hands for dinner. She might be leading armies but she is a master manager.

I respect that the Evil Queen is just vain nothing else. No nuance or depth just a very scary vain lady.

Also I know people complain about the Prince for having a small role and the reason for that was the animators were having a hard time animating a realistic man which is why the Prince only shows up twice instead a larger role which was the original plan.

Dwarves are also iconic, you know them even if you have never seen a single scene of the movie. I relate the most to sneezy and sleepy.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is a vastly charming and gorgeous movie that I didn’t appreciate as child but do as Grump adult.
