This movie was my number one movie when I was a kid.
Aladdin was my favorite as a kid probably because it was the funniest. Aside from the great comedy styles of Robin Williams’ Genie the rest of the cast are amazing. They are given sufficient moments to the point of wanting more. I mean Jasmine only gets one song and Jafar’s villain, while a great entry into the Disney villain song collection, it’s still a reprise.
The songs that are in the movie are all wonderful and top-tier Disney songs. Some are the best of their song types.
Aladdin has great style to the animation. Like every curvature to the lines is so well considered. The colors are rich and saturated which setting even if it a fantastical take .
There are some internal logic/plot holes that does make one scratch their head. I don’t think it’s enough to take one completely out the movie but why isn’t Aladdin a Prince the same way that Jafar is sultan and a sorcerer. Was it the wording? Aladdin’s wish is “Genie, I wish for you to make me a prince” and not “to be a Prince” and Jafar’s wish “I wish to rule on high as Sultan” and ” I wish to be the most powerful sorcerer in the world.” So maybe Genie is just very literal and by the book with wish wordage. Again it’s not enough to bring the movie down just worth some good-nature discussions.
I could write an essay/dissertation about how Aladdin is a culmination and finale to a sub-genre of Fantasy that isn’t made an more and how Aladdin lifts heavily from movies in this passé drama. Aladdin is still a super fun, silly and beautiful movie to rewatch.
