Number 13 is a cautionary tale about not snubbing invites to your high-profile baby shower.

Aurora singing to an Owl dressed a Prince, Disney Sleeping Beauty 1959

Sleeping Beauty was my favorite Disney movies as a four year old. I just remember watching it a lot. A lot the criticism surrounding this movie centers around Aurora and while those critics have merit I think they miss the point. The movie is more about the Good Fairies versus Maleficent.

Maleficent is one the best Disney Villains of all times. She is the mistress of Evil. She curses a baby for not getting invite to a party. And when he insidious falls her back-up plan diabolical and creative. And she turns into a dragon!

The Good Fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, are the film’s real protagonists. They are the ones doing everything and giving buffs to the Prince during the fight with Maleficent. The trio is a ton of fun and with great banter and comedy but they do get lost between Maleficent and Aurora.

Aurora gets very little scene time but what is lost in quantity is made up in quality as all her scenes are very memorable. Her singing and dancing with the woodland creatures is one of the best scenes in the movie.

Sleeping Beauty is alluded for its beautiful art and backgrounds and yes the artistry on displayed in this movie should be praised. It’s one of Disney’s most beautiful movies.
