This movie features birds and mice with fantastic sewing skills. Seriously, I’m jealous!
Cinderella is another movie I adored as a child. Like Sleeping Beauty, I watched so much that it’s etched into my heart. But is nostalgia enough to be on my favorite Disney movie list? Yeah, Probably, definitely.
Cinderella gets a lot of criticism for being weak by being a servant and the abuse she endures atthe hands of her step-family. However that misses the whole point of the Cinderalla myth. She gets rewarded for enduring her harsh life whiling maintaining being a bright, hopeful outlook on life.
Disney’s Cinderella, while vague in her dreams, does display a back-bone, snark and sass. Not to the degree of the 90s characters but it’s there, just listen to her talk about the cat or comment on the “music lesson” or when she asserts herself to her step-mother about going to the Ball. Also I get the need for a single night off. Cinderella just wants a fun night out of the house, dancing with and marring the Prince were extra bonuses.
The movie has a soft, romantic art nouveau-esque style that is dreamy and lovely to watch. Nearly all the songs are iconic PLUS Cinderella’s gown transformation is one of the more memorable bits of animation the company has done. It’s pure magic every time.
