A Muppet Family Christmas: Peace on Earth, Give me Presents!

The Muppets have a ton of Christmas specials and movies, the most noticeable is the The Muppet Christmas Carol which is wonderful but that is not one I’m going to talk about. Instead I’m going to talk about A Muppet Family Christmas Special from 1987.

The Cast of A Muppet Family Christmas

In the special every one goes to Fozzie Mother’s house for Christmas and they are joined but the Sesame Street gang and the Fraggle Rock crew. They get across the giving and togetherness message of Christmas but there is more silliness than morals which makes it wonderful and enjoyable. This special just makes me so happy.

You can watch the special on youtube as it’s not available on DVD any more and that DVD edited it a lot. Watch here, it’s like 47 minutes long.

Another Muppet Christmas thing that is close to my heart is A Christmas Together – John Denver & The Muppets. I listen to this CD a lot this time of year. It has a lot of humor and warmth. Track 3 The Peace Carol is my favorite. It was also another Muppet Christmas Special in 1979.

Moomins Christmas is Coming

I’m a sucker for the Moomins, I just adore them. If you don’t know the Moomins, they are happy troll-like creatures who live in Moomin Valley. They are originally from Finland and were created by Tove Jansson in 1945.

Moomins in Christmas is Coming

The Moomins sleep all winter, so winter is an unknown world to them which is the plot of Moominland Midwinter and a couple episodes of the second anime version of Moomins or Tanoshii Moomin Ikka which was made in the early 90s.

In the second half of the episode Christmas is Coming they learn about Christmas, in that they wake up from sleeping and learn Christmas is coming. They don’t know what that means and think Christmas is something big and scary and that a decorated tree, dinner and presents keeps it happy. The episode conveys the message that Christmas is more about giving and not presents but it’s done in a new and fun way.

Eivør Pálsdóttir’s Dansaðu Vindur

I mention that I would post some Christmas stuff I like. This by no mean everything just things I feel like mentioning quickly.

This is Eivør Pálsdóttir singing Dansaðu Vindur. It was adapted from the Swendish Eurovision song Den Vilda. This song was a hit in 2013 when it came out. And it’s on the Frostrósir album

Eivør is one of my favorite singers. Here she is singing in Icelandic but she in a lot of other languages including English. It’s just a pretty Christmas song.
