As fan of Hellfire and the Phantom of the Opera this video fills me with joy. I also think that the Phantom is more like Frollo than Quasimodo but that is an article for another day.

Today’s Horoscope comes from my old leather bound copy of the book. I’m not sure how old it is though. But it has illustrations.
The Horoscope is ” Thus, to sum up the points which we just indicated, three sorts of ravages to-day disfigure Gothic Architecture.” (Book 3, Chapter 1 Notre-Dame)
How prophetic!
I’ve studied Japanese and while I’m by no means fluent I think this is a decent rendering of the song into Japanese. I like that for the word for “fate” is Sadame which man fate but it has a sad connotation to it. Not sure what I think of the singing though.
I one time timed to tried to translate Belle into Japanese but not to fit the measure. I do think it would be cool if Notre Dame played to Japan, it’s played a lot in Asia but not in Japan.
Frollo from the 1939 version loves anime kitty-cats
For those of you who care the cats are from the following anime Azumanga Daioh, Nyan Koi, Natsume Yuujinchou, School Rumble, Ramna 1/2 Sailor Moon, Nyanpire, Fushigi Yuugi, Sweet Home Chii, Jewel Pet, Nichjou, Hello Kitty, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Pokemon, Sankarea, Trigun, and My Neighbor Totoro.
A Video of Matt Laurent (who has played Quausimodo over 400 times) sings Dance my Esmeralda on a Russian TV show.

I think he does a great job. He really does make some of the more awkward lines work. The arrangement is a bit more of a pop sound than in the show. I find it cute that he does that head tilt back move that you see Garou do a lot ( at 0.48). Maybe now it’s just a Quasimodo gesture to get the right tone of voice, but I alway associate that head tilt with Garou.
Today’s Fan-art is by StMalKavian. It’s Mortal Kombat meets Notre Dame de Paris. Classic ^^. It makes me smile as a fan of both Mortal Kombat and of Notre Dame de Paris. I wonder what Frollo’s finishing move was.

Pictures and Trailer from the upcoming 2012 Les Misérables movies. I’m still not sure on the casting and the production values seem a bit to much like “Notice Me Academy”.
(Please Note – I’m not as familiar with Les Mis so I may have misidentified characters or actors)

How do you think Notre Dame de Paris would translate to a movie format? I think a cinematic treatment could be cool but the musical doesn’t have the best “narrative.”
Sigma had youtube makeup gurus develop a make-up palette based on Paris called Sigma Paris Palette. One of the shades was inspired by Notre Dame Cathedral and it’s a really pretty purple taupe with lots of glimmer. The Notre Dame was developed by xteeener. I can’t help but to think how cool would it be wear a shadow based on Notre Dame.
xteener has a great little Smoky Eye Turrial using the Notre Dame shadow along with others colors from the palette.
I think this look by xteener is a good one for the Notre Dame de Paris Esmeralda, albet a bit more theatrical for the stage Wouldn’t it be cool if one of the Notre Dame de Paris Esmeraldas were to wear the Notre Dame shade, it would be such an inside joke for the Make-up department and the cast. But in all seriousness, Esmeralda should get some more dramatic eye make-up, I mean Quaismodo, Frollo, Gringoire and Clopin all get drmatic make-up looks whearas Esmeralda gets a very basic smokey eye. It’s time for Esmeralda to get more dramatic eye make-up.
Phoebus in the 1923 version of The Hunchback Notre dame is one of the few Phoebus that gets a bit of a character arc like in the book. In the book after getting stab he more or less gives up his cheating ways and dedicates himself to his Fiancée Fleur de Lys and submits to the tragedy of marriage.
In this version, Phoebus, after saving Esmeralda from the kidnapping attempt tries to seduce her but he is moved by her sweetness and innocence that his desire turns to true love. And with that Phoebus becomes the romantic hero who tries to marry her even though she is not in he same social class as him.
Besides being in love and getting stab by Not-Frollo (Jehan), Phoebus doesn’t do that much within the overall plot. He does reinforce that whole class system which the movie makes into a sub-plot but he himself is not bothered by it, so it’s not issue for him as a character. He does have a few amusing scenes with Gringoire and some overdramatic bits but other than he’s pretty dull.
Really his biggest purpose in the film is getting stab and giving Esmeralda a happy ending. Much like Not-Frollo, Phoebus is pretty dull when he turns into a romantic hero, he was was more interesting when he was being smarmy.
Next Time – Clopin
Last week it was announced that July 9th and 10th the original cast was performing the Notre Dame de Paris Concert in Beirut. Now they have added three more Concerts in March 2013 in Kiev on March 5th, Moscow on the 7th and 8th and St Petersburg on March 10th. It was reported on http://jzenatti.forumactif.com/ and has been confirmed on Bruno Pelletier Facebook page.
Does anyone else find it curious that they’re holding the Kiev concert in March next year? The Concerts have been performed for the last two years in Kiev in December and now they’ll be March and no 2012 Kiev performance. Though more of these concerts are a good thing so I’m happy.
